The CBS and MUBS students participating in the 2018 project made a trip to Jinja. Jinja is famed for its tourist attractions namely; the source of the Nile, the Bujagali Falls, it is also home to many factories, notable among them the Kakira Sugar Works. Jinja town is 80km east of Kampala, and the river Nile welcomes into this great city in Eastern Uganda. We set off from the Red Chilli aboard a 30 seater mini bus at about 7:30, and made a stop over at Namawojolo a trading center along the way. At this center roast chicken literary flew into the bus, we were shocked at this site and only a handful of MUBS students bought some chicken and grilled bananas. We crossed the river Nile at about 10:30am and we were amazed to see the Nile start her journey all the way to the Mediterranean sea north of Africa. Our next stop was the Kakira sugar factory which is about 10km out of Jinja town on the Jinja-Kenya highway. We were welcomed by the factory officials who took us on a familiarization

During the field course in Kampala, Uganda, our team focuses on microfinance in the semi-formal sector. More specifically, we look into how finacial and social intermediation provided through SACCOs influences female entrepreneurs. For this we are examining a SACCO with 75 members in Kabojja (western suburb of Kampala). During our days in the field wr conducted several interviews and organized a focus group discussion with female SACCO members.
